I am having an unhelpfully bad stomach day. I haven't got a lot done; I have bought food, which is handy, and done a fair amount of laundry, and checked when Clearing starts properly (vacancies are advertised from 18th August). I think tonight's jobs will be more laundry, cooking tasty supper, printing and reading Bladelands information, and tracking down my list of job websites.

Oh, the pain, the discomfort, the running up and down the stairs! I do hate this condition. I wish I could work out how to manage it better. I suspect a trip to the doctor is in order - one in which I am very firm about needing some serious support.

Recently people have recommended acidophilus tablets to me - it's the active ingredient in most of the probiotic yoghurty drinks. I've only been taking it for a few days, but it seems to already be lessening the constant running up and down stairs. GNC (in the Broad Street Mall) have it - it's in little jars in the fridges at the back of the store. About £5 for a month's worth, I think.

Peppermint tea and Colpermin are good for the pain. I've always got most mileage out of drinking bucketsful of peppermint and/or chamomile tea, and avoiding caffeine.

Hope some of this is helpful!

Also, this book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0091815932/qid%3D1120505391/026-0405446-5720458) is what helped me to manage the situation by myself, when my doctor was less than helpful. It's been absolutely invaluable, and has lots of really nice recipes in it, even if you don't do the whole exclusion diet thing.

The acidophilus are quite convenient in that you take them after meals, so you don't have to be psychic about them. They also live in the fridge, so you see them when you're looking at food.

Not being able to stand peppermint could be something of a difficulty! Although at least you don't taste the mint in Colpermin capsules. I can't remember whether you take those before or after food.

The book is great though. It can really help you to pinpoint unexpected things which might be triggering you, and the same sort of diet also works marvellously well for PMS, if you happen to suffer from that as well. Plus it's reassuring to be able to read through it and think, "Oh! I thought that was just me!"

Ooh, seconded on the acidophilus. I had to take it when [livejournal.com profile] smallclanger was a newborn and it did make a significant difference to my problems.

I should start it again, really, now I think of it.
