Is Shrove Tuesday. I am crap at making pancakes. I don't know if housemates are in to make pancakes with. Does anyone want to celebrate Shrove Tuesday with me? I have lemonjuice and flour and stuff...

Urge to go homehome to Wimbledon kicks in, but I don't think I want to do that right away, really. Hmm.

I'm rubbish at pancake making too. I always forget how much of what to add... But I'm off to London tonight anyway to impose myself on Evil HQ.

1 egg, half pint milk, 4 oz (= 4 rounded tbsp) flour, mix, leave to stand, fry. If you can't toss them don't worry you can cheat and turn them over with a spatula thing. That probably makes too many for one person but it's hard to use half an egg. I'm crap at them too, but it's always fun at least.

If you have too much mixture, remember it's the same mixture as for Yorkshire puddings, so you can bake it instead...

Can't remember temperatures though!

I'm making pancakes for Chris and myself before we go roleplaying. I'll make you some if you've done some cleaning...

*grin*

Actually, more seriously, I am intending to hog the kitchen from 6pm to about 7.15 with making pancakes for myself, Chris and very possibly Richard. We will be finished at the latest by half past though so you'll have it from them to make pancakes for you and whomever else you want.

Not really enough room at the hob for 2 people at once you see...

Yes! Come to Cambridge. [livejournal.com profile] lnr is having a pancake party, and you and your lemons will be most welcome if you can get here in time.

[thinks: chiark lemon. Hmmm.]

Can you get to Cambridge on that short notice?

Well, assuming you have a tenner and sufficient mobility to get to the bus station (or about 15 quid and sufficient mobility to get to the train station and be able to negotiate the Underground) then yes. Takes about 3 hours by coach, about 2 1/2 (and generally much more comfortable hours at that, if you don't mind the London changeover) by train.

Okay, so it was a bit silly and last-minute-ish, but I've done Oxford->Cambridge on as little notice before...

It's a shame you can't make it, but I'm not exactly surprised -- I'm afraid it was a bit last-minute. For future reference:

There might be coaches, or all-round-the-gasworks trains, or something.

X5 goes from Oxford to Cambridge (sometimes with a change at Bedford) every hour or so IIRC. Cambridge Cruiser (or whatever the hell the CCS coach is called these days) goes every couple of hours, takes longer, goes via every bloody airport in the South of England, and is more expensive, but I think runs later (i.e. all through the night).

Train goes Oxford->Paddington->[tube]->King's Cross->Cambridge. Easiest way to do the tube crossing is get on the H&C line, then you don't even have to change. At the moment, though, tubes are a bit funted, so it's anybody's guess...

I much, much, much, much (did I mention how much?) prefer to take the train. With a railcard it's not that much more expensive, and it's so much more comfortable. I can read without feeling sick; get up to go to the loo while travelling; buy nice food at King's Cross (the soups from "Soup Opera" are gorgeous!) rather than buying soggy burgers on the train; and get some kind of useful information about when the next train's due if there are delays. (It's saying something when the coach info is worse than the trains...)

Argh, my railcard expires for good in a couple of months. I am officially not a Young Person any more then. :-(

I thought they lasted til you were 26? Provided you renew it just before your 25th birthday anyway. Worth double checking anyway.

26 is the upper limit, so you can still renew it this year. More than that; if you renew it the day before your 26th birthday, it lasts for a full year after that despite you being overage. Which is handy.
