What do you eat for breakfast? I want to find something easy, tasty and quick to eat which will give me energy and keep me going for a good long while in the morning. Tell me what you eat or make suggestions for me. (I don't really get on well with cold cereal. I'm bad at keeping fresh milk in the house. I often eat things like bread with cold meats and fruit.)

Right now, because I've just got up, I'm eating two slices of toast, a banana and a small Mr Kipling cake, not all at once, I ate the toast first.

Cheese on toast is a good breakfast, with tomatoes on top.

Also, I don't know if Dave RPs, but I found out about this last night. (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=3094)

I usually eat two bananas and cereal, but you said that you don't like cereal.

How about banana and jam sandwiches on bread-with-nuts-and-oats-and-seeds in?

Porridge is good and can be made with water rather than milk I think, although we use soya milk which keeps longer than cow milk so is handier.
We have that at weekends sometimes when we have more time. Otherwise I have some kind of cereal with soya milk and banana, or toast with peanut butter and banana.

I have boiled eggs on wholemeal toast

On days when I get up in time to have breakfast at home I have cereal without milk - it's fine as long as you pick the right cereal - or toast with marmalade or marmite. And orange juice.

For breakfast, I mostly eat oats with cinnamon and water mixed in, and microwaved.

(Although last night I got carried away with eating oats and mixed coconut milk and chocolate chips with them and ate them for pudding. :) )

Cereal keeps me sane, can't help you. *hugs*

I'd suggest wholemeal bagels but British bagels suck!

You can get proper bagels in London, but you have to know where to go.

I tend to go for toast or porridge. Having something like scones around helps.

Generally I'll cycle into work, grab a bag of fruit on the way, and eat the banana or plum. Then I'll have a mug of porridge, and snack on the rest of the fruit throughout the day.

This morning I am having leftover spaghetti bolognese for brunch.

Beans on toast or potato waffles. Banana on toast is another nice one.

I need to get back into the habit of eating proper breakfast again, it does wonders for helping me lose weight, surprisingly.

It's not surprising - eating a good breakfast kicks your metabolism into "food is plenty, prepare to burn" mode rather than "crap there's no food here let's store all the calories we can" mode. Same reason why most dieting doesn't work.

My three default breakfasts:
1. Toast and Marmite. I love this, but it tends to leave me hungry mid-morning.
2. Fruit smoothie (a couple of small pieces of fruit whizzed in my hand-held blender with some fruit juice) poured over cereal. Very filling, slightly more preparation time, relies on me being organised enough to keep fruit in the house, noise of blender might annoy housemates if I had any. The fruit smoothie is often enough on its own to keep me from being hungry, since you say you're not keen on cereal.
3. Something involving "proper" cooking i.e. more complex than a toaster. I had scrambled eggs this morning. See also porridge, beans on toast or a boiled egg with soldiers. Restricted to weekends only, because I prioritise sleep over breakfast during the week.

Porridge (made with oat milk) or bagels (with hummus or marmite) stick to the ribs the best.

We also frequently have eggs but they require more work by the cook (not me).

Failing that toast and marmite but I always need 11 o'clock food if that's all I eat.

Smoothies

I usually just make a fruit smoothie. They taste great and are very healthy (I can easily pack my 5 a day into one of them).

Mmmm.

In summer I like to have a couple of handfuls of fresh fruit (apple segments, grapes, satsuma segments, maybe a banana, strawberries in season - that sort of thing), otherwise I vary between muesli base (not so keen on dried fruit) or Weetabix made with hot milk. Or else I'll whip up a quick batch of scones and have two or three whilst they're still fresh and hot.

On a weekday, nothing (other than coffee).

On weekends, often a full English (well, nearly-full - sausage, bacon and fried tomato). I realise this may not help much. Or once in a while US-style pancakes and syrup, or scones, or hash browns.

It varies. Weekdays: bran flakes with sliced banana, though that doesn't help you if you don't like cereal. Often it's just toast, or toasted crumpets. In summer, it's fresh fruit salad with natural yoghurt, sprinkled with almonds and pumpkin seeds.

Today? Today I ate some pork pies. lol. That is not a good indicator of my normal breakfast habits. I eat english muffins with peanut butter and a banana sliced on top. Or bagels toasted with some cheese. Or a smoothie made with milk, banana, honey, some other fruit and oats. Porridge.

Cereal usually - I also like porridge, but tend to put sultanas in it. handful of porridge, handful of sultanas, some milk, microwave for 3-4 minutes is also pretty quick & easy!

Ermmm...I have BAD input, what NOT to do...I usually grab a sugar free Sobe Adrenaline Rush (energy drink) on the way to work, and once that's gone, I grab a cappuccino-sized cup of free work slag (read: coffee) and sip on that until lunchtime.

Sometimes if I'm really hungry and can't handle it anymore, I'll make a cup of instant oatmeal. I prefer the Fruit 'n Cream variety pack, and all you need is a styrofoam cup and some hot water, so it's easy to make quickly.

I am dependent on magic fruit, by which I mean those bags of frozen cherries, or black forest fruit mix that most supermarkets seem to have. I have a bowl of magic fruit, with grape nuts sprinkled on the top for crunch and carbs, and then either milk or yogurt poured over. If it's milk, then I microwave the whole lot, if I have yogurt, then I just defrost the fruit, and put the toppings on after. I love it cos it's super quick and reeeeally tasty.
