I'm currently having to use iTunes instead of Amarok for music (Mac OS X rather than Debian for the moment, bah!). Amarok has a nice 'Queue' feature, where you can right-click on a track in the music library and queue it up (it gets labelled with a little number showing where it is in the queue). I don't seem to be able to do this in iTunes - I have to create a playlist or something and drag things to it which is much fiddlier than scrolling and clicking. Any ideas re. other ways to do this?

It always annoys me that the iPod doesn't have this feature either. For a music player you use while walking around doing other stuff you'd think it would be particularly useful, since you could queue tracks or albums up while sitting on the bus and then subsequently not run out of music when crossing the road.

(It's particularly annoying for me because I use my iPod as the back end to my car stereo, and it's even more important in a car stereo to avoid changing the track while you should be concentrating on the road!)

Hold down the centre button on the ipod to add the highlighted track to party shuffle.

Does that mean the same thing as "play this track or entire album/playlist after you've finished playing everything else I've queued up"?

Yeah, it's actually the 'On the go' playlist rather than party shuffle. You build it up as you go along, and can clear the list when wanted too.

I think I'd prefer it if it automatically dropped things off the start of the queue at some point after they'd been played; then it wouldn't ever need to be cleared.

Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge my car stereo won't generate the iPod UI event corresponding to "hold down centre button", so I can't even use this advice now I know it :-/

Why is a music program called 'wolf' in Inuit?

Its icon is also a wolf, in case you're interested :)

Well at least it's consistent :)

Ah, in fact Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarok_%28software%29) knows the reason. (It still upsets me that it's not Wikipaedia).

Right click, choose add to party shuffle.

Best way to do it.

You'll see however that Party Shuffle starts off with random tracks in it. This can be avoided by making an empty playlist and having PS source its tracks from that playlist (it'll give a warning, but just OK it)

The internet suggests you can install Amarok in OSX. It looks only mildly fiddly. Probably a bit time consuming if you're supposed to be working though :P
