Enormous thanks are due to everyone who offered me bits of computers last week. As it turns out, I have been given a computer by a workmate of Dave's, which I went for because it is portable - it's a 'Shuttle' machine, and it fits into my rucksack, which made it much easier to transport home than a standard tower case which I'd have had to put in a suitcase. It helps that it's pretty good, too, as specifications go. So I do now have a computer; it has a hard disk courtesy of Dave, with Debian installed on it, most of which I did myself with Dave peering over my shoulder. Particular thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mirrorshard who I messed about a bit last week in the matter of PC-exchange. I'm sorry I won't be taking it off your hands after all. Let me know if there's any way I can make up for the inconvenience.

I am still in need of a monitor. I think one or two people mentioned having one, so I will be sending email. The same biscuits/hugs/thanks/cash exchange policy applies; I may post to Freecycle about it too. I have a mouse of my own, and a keyboard on loan (possibly one of my own somewhere too), so I think I'm then mostly sorted. The new machine is called hikari, and will run Kopete which does LJ Talk as well as other IM systems, and should even run IM at the same time as Firefox/word processing/other stuff, so I might be a bit more chattable than formerly.

Thanks to everyone for your patience with me. I'm sorry if I've seemed a bit off about this whole thing. I really wasn't expecting quite so many people to respond, so I haven't thanked you all in the way I'd usually think was appropriate. I really am grateful, though, and if there's anything I can do for you, do say.

I've got a couple of crappy monitors that can tide you over until you get a proper one. Ie, they work, but you wouldn't want to do much work with them. You can happily keep it, but you won't want to :)

Still, easy for you to pick up - come round tonight if you want.

I noticed you had a better offer, so I didn't bother mentioning mine, but in case the other offers don't work out, I have a 17" Ilyama CRT that I haven't got round to Freecycling that you could have, though transport might be an issue.

My monitor offer is still good too, if you're not drowning in them by now! ;)

Paul's in Belgium at the moment, but he's back on Wednesday, so we can get it to you after that. :)

The limit of inconvenience involved moving the computer from the living-room floor to the kitchen table and back again, so it really isn't a big deal. Still, if you feel like making up for it by letting me test out a new recipe or two on you sometime, I'd be delighted; alternatively, hugs are also a fine medium of exchange.
