I have looked up trains to Leicester from Oxford, and they're easy; one change at either Coventry (quicker by a hair) or Birmingham New Street. I need advice about booking. I don't have any student/young person's Railcard; I guess there's some central booking line to phone. How far in advance does one need to book to get any discount fares?

Two weeks, usually. They're called Apex tickets, I believe.

If you want to book online www.thetrainline.com seem OK. I've had a poke around there. An Apex ticket needs to be booked at least 7 days in advance, and you need to specify exactly which train you want to travel on, and it's only available on some trains not all of them. Looks like Apex return would cost you about 20 quid instead of 29ish for a Saver. They don't seem to mention supersaver, dunno why not. HTH.

There's nobody else from Oxford going with lift space? Currently I still have three spaces in my car, but of course it's leaving from Cambridge, and you're at the mercy of someone else's timetable - not to mention my appalling driving :)
