How do I make a voice post, incidentally, without making an international phone call?

http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=183 suggests that Gizmo is a way to do it. I don't know if that's just VOIP or if there's some phone interface with Gizmo as well.

Oh, and when calling the US, there are numbers you can call (I use 0844 4300 181 but there are loads of companies doing this sort of thing) that let you make the call at rates somewhere between 0845 and 0870 calls.

Not sure how to go about it via phone. :-/ There are no numbers that wouldn't be long distance for me, either. (Doesn't make sense, really; how could they have numbers for EVERY OTHER major U.S. city aside from Chicago? Not that Chicago would be a local call for me, either. Bleh.)

If you have a mike and some available webspace, and if phone capabilities don't really matter to you so long as you can do voice posts on occasion, you can do what I do. =) Find some mp3 capable recording freeware (I use this (http://mp3mymp3.com) myself), record your voice post(s), upload, and post a link in your journal.

You could probably also use YouSendIt or some other similar service to upload voice posts if you had no webspace and really wanted to do it.

There used to be a UK forwarding number. I may still have it but I'm out of battery.

Someone already mentioned Gizmo, which is a VoIP system. Works very well if you're able to download the widget and have a microphone. You need to call the nickname ljvoicepost.

At one point, 0870 340 1388 used to work, which is premium but not international. I haven't tested it any time in the past 12 months though so I'm not promising it's still valid.

There was also 08703 401227 (http://community.livejournal.com/lj_nifty/119814.html), though in fact just calling any of the US voice post numbers via Telediscount (http://telediscount.co.uk/) or a similar service will work out cheaper.
