Monday, 17 April 2006 07:56 pmI have had a very nice weekend, slightly marred by the fact I have just shut my fingers in a door. Left hand, fortunately. Teh Internets are not being very helpful at telling me what one is really supposed to do in these situations - anyone got more Google-fu than me? (I have run them under the tap and had a hug from Robert - they are painful and tingly and one has a small cut on it, but I guess I'll live.)
Edited to add: This means that, while I have been away for a long weekend, and will be catching up on many journals and a few communities, I may not manage to type lots of comments. This is not because I don't love you, just because my left index finger is complaining somewhat already.

Date: Monday, 17 April 2006 07:21 pm (UTC)Rest
Ice (or frozen peas)
Compression
Elevation
for this evening. Wrap the ice/peas/whatever else in a tea towel or something so that you're not putting something so cold on your hand.
And take some painkillers - if you can take ibuprofen it's an anti-inflamatory which should help keep the swelling down. If not go for some paracetamol.
Compression - normal gauze bandage/stretchy stuff if you have it. If not ask at a pharmacy in the morning.
Elevation - try putting it in an elevation sling - this may or may not be comfortable. if not I wouldn't worry about the elevation bit too much. It's generally more important for legs.
If the swelling doesn't go down by morning, then go and see the nurse at your GP's practice and see what s/he suggests.

Date: Monday, 17 April 2006 10:31 pm (UTC)Old Johnny Bucca he lived by himself
As long as he had perfect health.
Then one day he took a wife
To care for him for the rest of his life.
Chorus:
Singing: I do believe, I will believe,
Old Johnny Bucca was a gay old bucca,
And a gay old bucca was he.
Now old Mrs Bucca she had a bad leg,
The doctor ordered her to bed,
Called Johnny in and he says to him,
'You'll Dave to rub your wife's left leg with gin.'
Now old Johnny Bucca thought 'twere a sin,
To rub his wife's left leg with gin.
So he pulled out the stopper
And poured it down his throttle,
Rubbed his wife's left leg with the bottle!
God made bees and bees made honey.
God made man and man made money.
Money made the Devil and the Devil made sin.
We shall have to dig a pit
For to put the bucca in.
Old Johnny Bucca went walking one day.
Down by the river he happened to stray.
Johnny fell in and he started to shout;
There was no bucca there
For to pull the bucca out.
Johnny he died and he went to heaven.
He got there about half past eleven.
St. Peter met him at the gate,
And said 'Johnny Bucca
You're too b... late!'

Glad that you had a nice weekend though, anyhow. :-)

Date: Tuesday, 18 April 2006 11:01 am (UTC)they were pretty mushed in but not broken and all i had to do was have them dressed and taped together. if yours don't actually have any serious cuts i'd say just tape them for stability and to remind yourself not to try to do much with them. and then take painkillers and wait wait wait.
mine were tingly and it tooks a while for them to be able to bend properly and get all the feeling back but they're 99% normal again now so you should be fine.
i hope they get better soon. xxx
