I have been productive today! 90% of our books are now on shelves or on the big rack, as opposed to being in heaps on the floor! I have rescued a quantity of my craft/sewing books from the rack shelf that I can't see, and have put them on my own shelves with the other such books. I have made a big box for Robert's Doctor Who books. I have also identified and imported to iTunes a batch of old mix CDs, and an Elton John Best Of double album :)

In an hour I will be off to Brownies, where I am intending to be a volunteer helper. I am nervous. Before then I have to call a job agency, write a couple of postcards, take a painkiller and change my clothes. Wheeeee!

Re Brownies - don't worry about it, I'm sure you'll have a good time there; just don't let anyone talk you into doing something you don't want to/don't have time to do. It's very common within Guiding for people to get given jobs they don't really want 'cos they don't know how to say 'no' to them.

Practise the no word, yes.

And if you really get into it and want some badges to put on a blanket, yelp at me and I shall give you many spares.

LOL. I literally did, when I read that.

okay, there's uk.rec.scouting - heavily scout based, but some good folks and good ideas, with a troll.

There's also a Guiding mailing list called guidinguk. They have a website - www.guidinguk.com. They are not all web-savvy, and though most are young-at-heart at least, some of them (even those who are young) aren't ... and as with all large groups you'd have to take some of them with lots of pinches of salt. As for trolls, I'd say there aren't many/any intentional trolls, but a lot of people who troll because they genuinely don't know any better. And they have no concept of netiquette. It is however a great group to be in from the point of view of support, information and swapping of ideas. They're a yahoo groups list, and about to move to a new list (on the 15th) with a better moderator set up (yes, it's a revolution). Old list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/guidinguk/ (it might take more than 3 days to get approved)
New list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Guiding_UK/ (it should be rapid to be approved, but may be slow because you're not on the old list, however I can email the moderators and tell them you're genuine if you tell me what email you will be subscribing with)

[livejournal.com profile] bfo does stuff with Guides.

I used to be a Brownie Guider (even finished my warrant card, iirc), but haven't been for years. Various reasons why not, including illness, spoons, moving away from the town I used to live in, and uncertainty about what they think of non-heterosexual leaders. But I can probably still make the right noises if asked questions.

Fantastic - it must feel nice to have the books organised!

Good luck with the brownies - let us know how it goes.
