Moaning about today aside, yesterday was great. I had guessed correctly how much time I would need to prepare and travel in, so everything would have gone smoothly if I hadn't woken up 45 minutes late. I dashed to Oxford, raced to Tesco, and arrived at the appointed picnicspot about five minutes late.
liriselei arrived on my rug first, then Suzanne who isn't on LJ, then
livredor, and then, at various points,
secutatrix and her friend Joe,
sesquipedality,
kim_barrett and her chap Andy,
imc and, at long last,
diffrentcolours whose fault it all was anyway. I think that's everyone :)
I had spent about £15 on food, and then everyone else brought lots too, so there was masses (including about four separate tubs of homous). We got through quite a lot in the end, and then I inveigled people into taking the leftovers home, so it all worked out well.
The weather was lovely and sunny for most of the afternoon, so we lounged about, blew bubbles (well, I did), played with
secutatrix's new flying-saucer-instrument (I want one!) and did some LARP fighting. I now intend to get my middle brother (who's a keen fencer) to teach me more parries and things when we go on holiday in September.
At about 5 it started to become more overcast, and by 6.30 we were feeling spots of rain, so we packed up and headed into town, shedding people along the way; Christi and I went for a coffee before joining
diffrentcolours in the Wheatsheaf. After a while, various dubious types appeared, including
chrisvenus, Twofish and tfm who aren't on LJ, and
spaglet. We drank an initial pint and then decided that the table really was too small; so after I induced the first five of the above-named people to do silly things with their hands for me we decamped to the Chequers round the corner, which has much bigger tables and comfy sofas. This confused a couple of people but they found us eventually - I hope no-one completely failed to meet up with us! We were joined by a couple of very nice goth types whose names I didn't catch (or can't remember after the drink) and by
quisalan. There was excitment in thr form of a thunderstorm and consequent broken gutter which threatened to flood the pub and damage all their electrics, but we did not, in the end, have to swim home and nobody died.
I decided to make my way home on the train, and left at about 11. The train was delayed, so I sat around the station eating leftover breadsticks wrapped in ham, and finally got home at about quarter to one in the morning. Not too bad, really.
Thanks to everyone who came out and had fun with me :)
