I would also argue that even if some people don't have a problem with it, the fact that some people find it dreadfully rude is reason enough not to carry on with it!
I don't see why it's necessary, there are countless other jokes that can be put onto a T-shirt that aren't offensive, so why unecessarily upset people?
It seems to me the original issue was that the people in question thought everyone would be happy to laugh at fat people.
I want to think that they just hadn't thought about it, but the phrasing of the stuff about the 'risk' Rory was taking suggests they did know it was offensive.
I agree with you, if I was wearing a corset to help slim and because I looked good in it, I wouldnt appreciate someone telling me I was still fat- and I'm a size twelve!
The point is that langauge is affective as well as effective.
It not only informs, it shapes - it shapes our world view, it re-enforces it.
We accept this when we ban words - consider the racial epithets which are no longer acceptable. Why are they not acceptable? Because of the message they conveyed and the sort of society they helped to build. To change the second, we changed the first, along with a lot of other things.
Its a personal opinion, and whilst its rude and quite pathetic I believe, whom ever the person is, has a right to say it.
On a wider issue if this is something that needs to be tackled by the Cam as a whole then this just falls into whether the entire body needs to behave on a more professional basis.
The orignal issue related to a proposal that someone would wear a rude t-shirt at a Cam event. I have epressed my disapproval of this and I believe the plan is being changed. If the t-shirt is worn anyway (in the way planned) then I will speak to the C-chain about it.
As for the anon commenter, I don't know who he/she is, I don't know whether they're a Cam member, and they aren't making their views known in a Cam forum, therefore even if I wanted to make a fuss (which I don't) I couldn't.
I think they're stupid but they're not saying anything so dreadful I'd want to report them to anyone official.
The problem is that by posting it as an anonymous comment the person comes across a whole lot worse by appearing too immature or scared to stand up to their own opinion.
No, somebody is just baiting for responses I suspect. And I'm slightly owrried that you are now feeding the troll. Still, people can make up their own mind if they think its a troll or somebody who truly doesn't understand (and would be interested in being corrected).
Anon comments are now screened, and I doubt I will unscreen any more after this one. I did want to answer that one, and make the point absolutely clear, but it's not worth making further responses after this, you're right.
