Re: t-shirt slogans, could I get some more input responding to this comment? Someone needs this concept breaking down into bite-sized pieces.

I would also argue that even if some people don't have a problem with it, the fact that some people find it dreadfully rude is reason enough not to carry on with it!

I don't see why it's necessary, there are countless other jokes that can be put onto a T-shirt that aren't offensive, so why unecessarily upset people?

I agree with you, if I was wearing a corset to help slim and because I looked good in it, I wouldnt appreciate someone telling me I was still fat- and I'm a size twelve!

For me the problem is not calling people fat, it's calling them stupid.

The point is that langauge is affective as well as effective.

It not only informs, it shapes - it shapes our world view, it re-enforces it.

We accept this when we ban words - consider the racial epithets which are no longer acceptable. Why are they not acceptable? Because of the message they conveyed and the sort of society they helped to build. To change the second, we changed the first, along with a lot of other things.

Am I allowed to be biting, patronising and snide?

As a counter balance

Its a personal opinion, and whilst its rude and quite pathetic I believe, whom ever the person is, has a right to say it.

On a wider issue if this is something that needs to be tackled by the Cam as a whole then this just falls into whether the entire body needs to behave on a more professional basis.

Of course, if they have a right to say it, we have a right to argue with it.

Indeed no denying that at all.

Unless I'm missing something here is this just a personal disagreement or is the intent for serious action to be taken?

The problem is that by posting it as an anonymous comment the person comes across a whole lot worse by appearing too immature or scared to stand up to their own opinion.

Well, by posting that truly anonymously they are just coming across as a troll.

No, somebody is just baiting for responses I suspect. And I'm slightly owrried that you are now feeding the troll. Still, people can make up their own mind if they think its a troll or somebody who truly doesn't understand (and would be interested in being corrected).

I rather like trolls. Flamewars are fun.
