Oh hell.
Have arranged to be at the Camarilla National for the Mage game from 12-3 on Saturday 7th May, in Coventry. That's fine. Plan is currently that I will then head down to Cambridge for the CCF party and thence (the same evening, I expect) to London in order to be with my family on my birthday, Sunday 8th May, when we are having a big lunch. It will be a stretch doing all that travelling in a day, but that's why I have an iPod and a rucksack to fill with books.
Now I find there is a second Mage game on the Sunday, from 12-3. I can't possibly go as I have already arranged the birthday lunch and my godmother wouldn't be able to make it if I moved it to evening. When there was only one game I knew I was going to be there for all the significant events. Now I know for sure I won't be, and it makes me feel there's no point going just for half the total game time. It's not a complete-in-itself game now, it's split and I'll only be there for part 1. I'll miss the tying up of loose ends in the second part; it won't make narrative sense for my characher to be present for the first section but absent for the second bit.
I might as well not go at all. Why can't people stick to the published plan? If it had been soft RP that was definitely optional and wouldn't have major ramifications, it would've been fine. But no - whole game announced less than four weeks in advance.
I know I'm being crap about this and it ought to be a good thing there's more sanctioned game available. But it's completely fucked up my plans and I have no idea how best to handle it.
Gah. Very tempted to just skip the whole damn thing and go to CCF instead.

Date: Tuesday, 19 April 2005 09:16 pm (UTC)However, as you have flagged this up in advance and as I am part of the ST team for the Mage National and as I know your character from way back (though might need a bit of an update)... if you still want to go I'll make sure we have plot that makes sense and carries on for you so that just being at the first session not only makes sense, but will actually give you some ongoing plot stuff. Not guaranteeing 'safety' from in-game events, but then that applies to anyone that plays in both, as normal.
After all, we're there to give people rewarding stories as well as just single games.
Or you could call it a geeky-rp birthday present ; )

Hey, after Oxford finishes I'll probably end up playing in London - kind of full circle in some ways, as you helped me create the character :)

Date: Thursday, 21 April 2005 11:25 pm (UTC)Your character is also one of the ones that I feel epitomises what is good about Mage. She's a human being who knows that she can change things a bit, but doesn't stop caring and doesn't try to act like she's superior to normal people.
Drop me an email with a potted history of anything you think might be useful to know before the national and/or we'll have a chat before time-in.

There will be ongoing plot and ramifications but from what I've seen there will be big stuff where you make a difference on the Saturday and the Sunday will be more of an aftermath game. I certainly think you can have fun going to only one of the two.

Date: Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:16 am (UTC)The main focus are 2 different games on Saturday and Sunday. Both of which look like they should be pretty damned cool.
But they are different and somewhat 'complete' on their own I am lead to beleive.
So it should be good to go to either or both!
