Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:55 pmCONCERT last night was largely excellent. London Irish Centre, a tenner; storyteller Billy Teare, singer Niamh Parsons with guitarist Graham Dunne, and folky band Cran. All very good. Niamh Parsons is to blame for a lot of the folk stuff I sing at LARP events; things like Black Is The Colour, Poor Sally Sit A-Weeping and Fear a Bhata I first heard sung by her a few years ago at the Purcell Room. It was great to hear her again.
Today I am trying to be organised and not succeeding very well so far. I want to create pirate trousers for Sunday and am failing to work out how to do this. They should show off the stripy hosiery I intend to wear, and be easy to put together and not require me to purchase a pattern! I could make wrap pants cut to below the knee and gather them to a cuff at the bottom, but I think I might screw that up. Tips and ideas welcome. Also a show of hands from costumiers among my friends would be cool - it would be nice to know who actually understands what I'm on about when I talk about these things :)
Tonight Robert plays a bridge match, so I have the evening free topaint the town red run the dryer and fill the dishwasher. Woohoo.

Date: Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:30 pm (UTC)You could always turn up a hem along the bottom edge and run elastic though it? Then they would be gathered at the bottom, but still open at the sides to show your stripy legs...

Date: Thursday, 28 October 2004 03:07 pm (UTC)The wrap pants pattern is great, save that the circumference of the leg-tube is related to the circumference of the waist/hips, so if you make them for a larger person they get very very big indeed, and can be difficult to taper. But I've made them for Robert and myself, and they've worked pretty well - and with so few seams there isn't too much to mend when they start falling apart!
