Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:12 pmIt's looking like I need to have a singing-and-cake belated birthday party (I've still never celebrated my 23rd with friends). I wonder how/when I could do that?
Maybe after I get back to Reading, and before I get too bogged down in jobs and things, I could organise something fun. It could be a picnic if the weather is still good, and that would lessen the house-panic and the issues with lack of space. We could have it in Prospect Park, and people could bring musical instruments. They could bring frisbees and boardgames and juggling balls and skipping ropes too, of course - I don't expect everyone would want to sing.
What I'd like to do is actually teach people new songs. I know a few that I think are unfamiliar to most people and should be more widely known. It's hard to teach people round a campfire, though, so I'd have to get a group of people who were interested in sharing new things. I guess it would be a 'bring five copies of the words and two of the tune and guitar chords' thing, and then we'd have a hope getting somewhere. Who's interested in singing new music?
*thinks*
So, in about three weeks I will be back in Reading. I will take some time to get used to being back at home with Robert, and I will tidy the house. As my housetidying progresses I will ask Janet over, because she has volunteered to help, and eventually I will ask Kathryn to come and do some of the ironing she loves so much :) Then I will be able to invite people round. I will get a new job and hence have some money, and I will lose some weight. I will do some new evening classes (more on that in a separate entry). It will all be fine.

Date: Wednesday, 15 September 2004 04:09 pm (UTC)I'd love to learn new songs. I assume you're thinking of folky stuff? I always want to learn new folk songs... I just wish I had occasion to sing them somewhere. Or a voice good enough to make it worthwhile, sigh.
I have music for madrigals and stuff as well, which I'd be glad to bring if anybody wanted to do that kind of thing.

Date: Wednesday, 15 September 2004 04:26 pm (UTC)I really, really want to teach people my favourite song ever, which is 'In the Calm Hour of Evening'. It's from some obscure choral songbook, but my mother used to sing me to sleep with it, and it's in a folk style, and it's just great. Also other folky stuff, like Sally Sits A-Weeping and Green Grass It Grows Bonny.
I tend to sing them at rubber-sword LARP events, and one of my non-rubber-sword LARP characters plays the guitar, so I have more excuses to sing.
