Violin woes
Wednesday, 4 August 2004 04:31 pmI just tried to tune the violin properly (ie to the proper notes, instead of just relatively okay) and found that one friction peg is totally, completely STUCK and will not move a bit. In trying to sort this out, I broke one of the other strings. So I am a tad frustrated, and the violin is currently useless.
If I get my act together, though, I can look up local music shops, go to one, buy new strings and ask for help with the friction peg. I ought to do this soon, or it will never get done. At any rate, no matter how annoying this experience may be, it does mean my family are spared any more squeaking and wailing for a little while.
I have begun a new community intended for Camarilla UK members. It's a sister community to
shadow_writers, and it's called
shadow_artists. The idea is fairly obvious. I have put up a good few recent pieces there already, so if anyone not connected to the Cam is mad enough to want to see my drawings of satyrs and geeks, head on over.
This has encouraged me to sort out my website, so I'm busy planning it out at the moment. I might even have actual content this time. And to that end, a quick question: what would you like to see on a website run by me? Anything goes - post a comment!

Date: Wednesday, 4 August 2004 03:53 pm (UTC)Has the violin got adjusters? If not, I'd recommend getting them... Makes it so much easier to tune, and saves strain on the pegs & surrounding wood.
BTW I know you'll have to go to an actual shop this time to get it fixed, but for future reference it's pretty easy to get strings and other bits and bobs online. These people (http://www.violinvaluations.com/) are quite good, and they even sell pretty shiny coloured bows! (http://www.violinvaluations.com/trolleyed/85/index.htm)

I saw you at 'ling on Sat (I was playing Vala, the far too hyper bat pooka) and I was wondering where you got those shoes you were wearing. I need a pair of desent shoes and I totally loved those :)
Hilde
P.S. I do apologise for the strangeness of this :)

Date: Monday, 9 August 2004 09:04 am (UTC)They're from Dolcis and cost in the region of £25. They're very comfortable but not very hard-wearing - the construction of the sole means the edges of the leather upper get scuffed very easily, and the leather-covered buttons are beginning to lose their covering slightly. But they are delightfully comfy and look nice :) I like flat strap shoes!

Now I need to find out where there is a Dolcis in London. Hurrah for the internet lol :)

Date: Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:44 pm (UTC)However, I have an in between size, 4 is too small and 5 a bit too big but definitely not uncomfortably so, and I can just slide them on. I think the buttons are definitely going to be thankful for that lol :)
Thanks again for pointing me at the store, I really love those shoes, they're very comfy fitting already and I haven't even broken them in yet :)
