Yeah, so, I spoke to my dad. Scratch the worries about cars and stuff - my mother's in hospital again. Something to do with low sodium levels in her blood and ensuing extreme confusion. She's in Kingston hospital and apparently showing signs of recovery, but it's not great news.

I am going home tomorrow anyway (my dad has cancelled his trip to Costa Rica) and we will be arranging my bedroom so it can be used by my mother.

This means I have a spare ticket to '84 Charing Cross Road' for tomorrow night, 7.30 at Richmond Theatre. I intend to talk to my youngest brother tonight and see if he wants to come with Robert and I, but he might not. In that case I will be offering it via LJ to any of my nice friends in the area, so watch this space if you're one of those people. It's an epistolary play about book shops based on the book by Helene Hanff, and it's great.

This is so not what I want to happen less than a week before my birthday. Really.

sodium deficiency is only really dangerous in itself because it's so easy to confuse the symptoms with something else - it's common in athletes and amphetamine users - they drink a lot of water (no sodium) to replace their excess water lost through sweat (lots of sodium), and then things go wrong. Once you know that's what it is sodium is quite easy to get back into the body. eg eat more salt.
