Saturday, 6 March 2004 03:49 pmEeeeeurgh. Am very tired. Just got back from shopping in town. Bought stuff in Boots. Bought stuff in Holland and Barrett. Tried on stuff in Pilot and Miss Selfridge which was all too small and made me feel like a huge horrible floopy elephant. Bought men's shirts in Profile which I will chop up. Got confused by salespeople in Orange and Carphone Warehouse. Bought miles of fabric in Fabricland. Somewhere in the middle threw myself at a piece of pizza and an orange.
Got in, half-dead, to Robert ordering me out of the door again to go and unpack things for Christi. I thought that was tomorrow but I was wrong. He decided to go without me so now I'm all lonely. I don't know when he's coming back :(

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 04:09 pm (UTC)Which I know doesn't always help very much, but still.
When you're rather recovered (and when I'm feeling a tad less lousy myself! I shall probably be e-mailing or commenting to you with the intention of picking your brains rather over this strange and mysterious thing called a "dress pattern" and how I use it. I have some ideas but want to make sure I do it right!
Don't know how you feel about phone calls, but if you're feeling lonely and would like a chat when you're feeling recovered a bit, Nick and I will probably be in all afternoon/evening (we were going to go to a concert but I'm a bit too knackered...).

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 04:22 pm (UTC)Am not really very good with phone calls - much better with text things or face-to-face things. Maybe I should get an instant messenger thingy?
As to the dress pattern, I have not ever used one of the real proper sort that you buy. However, my hobbit bodice was made from a pattern that I drew out myself according to instructions and measurements. I can certainly try to give you a hand, though :)

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 04:34 pm (UTC)I think I'll pick Liz's brains on the pattern thing in that case - my problem at the moment is simply not really quite understanding how they work.
One thing that either or both of you can maybe help me with as well - erm, with regard to measuring: *where* do you measure things like bust, waist etc.? When measuring from the back of the neck to the waist, is that from the nape, or the bottom of the neck?
*is very ignorant*
Oh, I'm so hoping that I can do the dress okay. If I do I will have in my possession a black velvet, long-sleeved dress that will actually fit me well. The idea appeals enormously. :)
*more hugs, because you are fabulous*

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 04:49 pm (UTC)Waist would be your natural waist, wherever the thinnest part of you is.
back of neck would be bottom of neck, I think.
I might get MSN then :)

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 04:37 pm (UTC)May I phone you at some point over the weekend and ask you things? A chat would be lovely anyway, if you're up for it!

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:19 pm (UTC)The site also has some sewing help which may be useful, but it doesn't look terribly comprehensive.

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:24 pm (UTC)The pattern number is 9103, and I'm doing version D.
I'm hoping the sewing itself will be relatively straight-forward (or that if it isn't, I can make it so, as it were), given that I don't have a sewing machine and basically only know two stitches. But thanks for finding that bit of the site too - even if it's not comprehensive, tips in general will be good. :D
Speak tomorrow then!
*hugs* thank you, you're a star. :)

Date: Saturday, 6 March 2004 05:59 pm (UTC)Picture yourself in a restaurant with people
From places like Pembroke and Keble and New;
Somebody hugs you; you start and turn round
and it's Krys and she's meowing at you...
People with senses of humour unusual
People from Aus and Japan
Look for the reason behind it (it's fleeting) it's gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds...
