Have just won my first ever game of Minesweeper using http://birrell.org/andrew/minesweeper/ - I am very bad at it and have never won a game before, no matter what the medium. I am very chuffed!

This site has some very interesting webtoys, actually - http://birrell.org/andrew/knotwork/ is an applet for designing Celtic knotwork, and it's great fun to play with.

There was allegedly one version of Minesweeper which had a `Dan Quayle' mode: one bomb in the whole field, and it was almost impossible not to win on the first click. :-)

Heh. And, of course, it is impossible to lose on the first click. :)

No - if you are very unlucky, you could hit the one bomb on your first click.

Ah, so different from "real" Minesweeper, then, where the board is generated with the first click. :)

Most implementations don't allow that.

The Java one above does. But I admit I don't think I've ever played the Windows one.

I've yet to see an implementation that does (other than the one above).

Well, my brother wrote one too. :-)

(His was based on the Mac one, which I've also never played.)
