I'm sure somene mentioned Robitussin in a comment somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. I have some, have taken a first dose, but found it tasted so horrid I washed it down very quickly with water. I'm guessing this might have been the wrong thing to do, yes? (It doesn't say you mustn't on the packet, though.) Can anyone who's used it confirm whether or not letting the syrup slosh around your palate is a necessity?

Chesty coughs which are out of control. Same base ingredient (guaifenesin, an expectorant) as in all the Robitussins, but also with dextromethorphan, a mild cough suppressant. It occurs to me only now that they might not use the letter codes here.

This does not have a cough suppressant. However, I do have some co-codamol. If I can work out whether all these damn medicines are going to combine and kill me or not, I may take some.

I have tried so many things over the last two days, I can't quite believe it.

Co-codamol and Robitussin should be fine (the combined ingredients were prescribed to a good friend of mine last year).

yes, but I had a couple of beecham's All In One tablets earlier (quite a lot earlier now) and some ibuprofen sometime, and God knows what else (I can't remember now, I'm so tired). I think I'll be okay, I'm leaving good long gaps, but I've never taken this many different medicines in this space of time before. i'm just nervous like that.

NHS says ibu and paracetamol can co-exist. 4-6 hours between paracetamol is an acceptable gap, and the recommended dosage on OTC stuff is set a little low. I know it's a bit OMGWTFARGH and stuff, but you really should be OK.

All this said: if coedine doesn't let your lungs settle down long enough for you to catch up, you really might want to phone up NHS Direct...

Yeah - I don't think I'm being stupid about it. I just know I'm not 100% on the brain activity at the moment and I don't want to down something in desperation and then have to get nasty things done to my stomach at the hospital.

I have now taken two co-codamol on top of the Robitussin. I'm still coughing a lot, though not so excessively as I was earlier. Not so hard, anyway, and less frequently. I have a hot drink to get through which may help, and then I think more Robitussin is in order :)

I'm just going to dose myself over and over and over and drink and eat hot things and do whatever I can until the virus has worn itself out. Evem if that means no sleep till Monday or something, I'll just have to get on with it.

Don't forget to check the paracetamol content of the medicines you take (Beechams probably has it in, as does cocodamol of course) as that's probably the limiting factor (and I'm led to believe that paracetamol overdoses are not fun).

I have checked; I don't think I'm going to have problems with the things I have been taking and the time I've allowed between them. Thanks for the advice :)

Apropos of nothing much, guafenesin is used by many people when trying to conceive (I forget the details of how it works but it is apparently quite efficient). So take care if taking a lot of Robitussin. ;-)
