Context? If it's e.g. "Internal Sales Executive" it may just be a bracketing problem, i.e. it's an executive responsible for the Sales department within the company rather than an executive responsible for "internal sales".

It depends on the company, but in places I've worked the internal sales people followed up on orders that the travelling sales people got - made sure the paperwork was filled out, acted as a contact point when the travelling person wasn't around - that sort of thing.
Lots of phone work, stuck between the customer and the salesperson - not my idea of a good job, but some people seem to love it.
Sometimes the "internal market" fantasy some companies entertain gets out of control. The first warning is when internal users are referred to as "customers" by tech support management.
