Nickname required

Right, well, I need a nickname for a roleplay character. Let me explain.

I registered the character (a Ventrue ghoul for Steve's group concept) as 'Lisette Montague' way before I'd even started considering statting her up. That, then, is her official name.

Sadly, it doesn't suit the projected character at all. 'Lisette Montague' doesn't suit a punky, bolshy, probably queer geekette with a tendency to wear fake-fur skirts and anime t-shirts, along with really weird hairstyles and big boots. Essential concept is 'computer geek',

Basically, she needs a net-handle. I am totally lacking in ideas. 'Liz' doesn't work. 'Monty', while pleasantly gender-twisting, sounds too old-fashioned. It needs to be pronounceable. It needs to sound like it's plausibly a name, not 'the_wild_chyk' or something.

Anyone got any thoughts?

If its an online handle then why do you need it to be anything like your real name? You want pronounceable and like a plausible name which narrows it down somewhat (though most things are pronounceable if you care to try). Just go to a few IRC channels to see how rarely real names and net names co-incide. To go through some that spring to mind:

Death - Chris
Satan - Noodles - Jonathan (though the middle one is of course not a net name (I think))
Hoggy - David
Neve - Caroline (originally another RP character but became a net name)
quisalan - krystyna
elethiomel - steve

Just choose a name you like and as made up as you want. Online personas and offline personas are totally separate things after all. And if you want a similar example my mage is called Matthew Small. *Everybody* calls him Stream though. :)

Oh, and of the names others suggested I really liked Tag. A vague abbreviation of real name and it sounds like it should be a good online handle.

Hmm, my experience shows that many net-savvy geekettes (especially those with handles) tend toward the more self confident nicks, but disdain the outright use of innuendo, while still implying a certain degree of femininity.

My suggestion for the minute: Carmen

How about "Tague"?

Looks vaguely like a name (albeit probably a name from crap fantasy novel), but no obvious gender connotations one way or the other (at least not in English, AFAICT). Looks pronounceable, though it's not obvious how you'd pronounce it -- but IMHO this is a good thing for net-handles. The net is a textual medium; names don't have to be constrained by phonemes.

Mind you, as cv said, it doesn't have to be anything to do with her real name, so maybe this is a silly suggestion.
