My Weekend. Watch my super-original titles!
Monday, 18 November 2002 03:30 pmSo, the weekend was much fun. I did my classic faff-monster act on Friday, so I arrived in Birmingham very late, turning up at Becky's just as the Exalted game was winding down at about 11.45. I crushed Steve's legs into the chair for a bit (no floor to sit on!) then wandered off to get chips, ate, nattered, and then vanished to zonk out.
Saturday morning dawned bright and... oh, no it didn't. Woke up about 1, dragged self and Steve out of bed, and after some more faffing (I'm good at that) went off to shop and wander. Can't think what we actually did (oh yes I can, actually; we went shopping on King's Heath High Street, that's it. Exciting things like coat-hangers, razor blades, and ham were purchased. Go us.), but we eventually wound up at the Chameleon Bar for the first sanctioned Birmingham Changeling game. Kat gave me a nice non-player character; a Boggan (roughly a cross between a household imp and a hobbit) whom I christened Rowan. I really enjoyed the game, and will be going back next month without fail. I have all sorts of ideas for the character and am already started on a patchwork work-apron which will eventually brim with threads, scraps of cloth, ribbons, and all manner of treasures. Oh yes, and I seem to have another non-straight character. Bisexual, this time, but it's turning into a pattern.
It was also very nice to see again players who rarely or never come to Oxford, and meet some new people too. All in all, a very enjoyable evening. Now I just have to decide whether to buy myself an extra pair of eyebrows :)
On Sunday, we woke up in pretty decent time to get off to the Mage game in the afternoon. Obviously, my wombling about packing my bag delayed things, but we managed to make it to Scruffy Murphy's in good time. Much hugging of people happened, followed by new Storyteller husts and elections. After this, Steve and I wandered off again, ate nice lunch at the Squeg, and did some shopping.
Bought new copy of Mistress of the Empire for Krys because I squashed raspberries onto hers by accident; also Silverthorn for me. Getting into huge interlinked series of books as thick as bricks is not good for either my free time or my purse. Also gazed longingly at horribly expensive tops in fancy branch of Miss Selfridge (lovely gold satin basque top with lacing - might well have bought it if they had had it in anything larger than a size 12, grr).
Returned to Scruffy's in time for the end of Mage, and the arrival of piles of people for Cam/Anarch in the evening. Got hugged by Becky, then ended up in a hugpile with Steve, Kat, Becky and Linette. As people renewed memberships and began to plot, I sat in the corner with Steve talking quietly and intermittently hugging people. Again, it was lovely to see friends; however, I was becoming sadly conscious that the countdown to train-catching was ticking away. (I will note here that Linette looked *fabulous* in her outfit, as did many other people [not other people in Linette's outfit, no, other people in their own outfits, yes], and Lizz is a star for lending me her corset :) ) Eventually, it really did become time to go, so Becky and Steve and I headed off stationwards. After some standing around, erroneous station announcements, and one mad rush to the platform (and not enough goodbye hug! Meep!) I made it to the train. The journey was nice and uneventful, until it was announced we weren't stopping at Oxford after all, but Didcot Parkway instead; so an extra train-trip back to Oxford was required. Thankfully, I still got home at a decent time, and fell into bed.
Tonight I must do useful things, like washing hair, clearing floor, laundry and ironing. Also completing job application, writing Mage downtime and background, and doing more bits on new character.
Have just been told our net connection will be interrupted for a while, possibly all afternoon, because it's being upgraded, so I may actually have to do some work for once. I think filing and paperwork await me. [Ah, no, the network guy can't come till tomorrow morning after all, yay!]
Oh, and Becky, Krys is going to send me the music, so I'll have a listen and then chat to you about the arrangement :) If any of this is likely to involve *me* attending the Toreador Ball, someone had better make it clear to me *soon*.

Date: Monday, 18 November 2002 07:55 am (UTC)But that's my Changeling rant of nothingness. People naturally do whatever they want, with or without book references.... It's a game to be enjoyed in ways you enjoy after all :)
I'll have to try and get to B'ham Changeling. I really want to go, but with it clashing with my local game at Cambridge it's not usually possible. Though if Kat runs a game in January (because nobody will run a game in December if at all possible) then i may be able to make that, since Andy and Christi are taking a break.
