The lecturer sounds totally rubbish and unprofessional. Plenty of people find the C Word objectionable but, really, she is being a bit childish in refusing to utter it in an academic context.
I have a shark phobia but I still managed to rattle my way through a seminar on Copley's Watson and the Shark because it just wasn't the time and place to make a fuss about a personal issue. ;)
