I am progressing on my work, though not quickly enough. I have decided that if I can avoid having to go into the department before tomorrow morning that will be best as the time it takes to walk there is significant. So I need to get Indesign working with WINE, which requires me to install the non-free version of unrar, and then locate and probably purchase some specific fonts online. I need help with this - any Debian-aware types around and IMable?

My offer for sorting with VMware still stands. Assuming there is a Debian package for it, it'll take less than two hours (installing windows inside your linux install) and will then work with no fuss. You'll get all the standard Windows fonts into the bargain, don't know if it's those you need of course.

This is probably the best option - Adobe programs have a habit of not quite working with WINE, and older versions are generally better supported than newer ones.
