Oxford: firmer plans
Thursday, 23 June 2005 02:05 pmRight. This is *nearly* a final plan; I will edit this post as the last details become clear.
I intend to visit Oxford on Tuesday 28 June. I will try to arrive between 11 and 12, and pick up some bread, tomatoes and sandwich fillings from Tesco. Then I will decamp to the Angel and Greyhound meadow. Please join me there from 1pm.
Bring something to eat and/or drink (I will not be bringing alcohol, but you can if you like it), something to sit on if you're able to (I will probably have a picnic rug but it's not very big), your friends, housemates, partners, children, parents or whatever, and anything in the way of musical instruments, frisbees, footballs, poi, LARP swords, or other playthings that you feel like messing about with. Also suncream and appropriate cool clothing; I'll lay out the rug in the shade, but it'll be hot! (In the unlikely event that it rains I'll be in the Angel and Greyhound pub.)
The picnic is likely to continue for most of the afternoon, until at least 5pm. It may morph into a pubmeet later on, or I may go for food with
diffrentcolours who is the catalyst for this visit. I'll firm up on that in the next few days; if you want to spend time with me in the evening because you can't make the picnic, please say so and I'll do my best to sort something out.
If you spot any problems with this plan, or have any other suggestions or ideas, please comment. I'm thinking about how widely I want to distribute my phone number - I might well post it later on.

Date: Monday, 27 June 2005 10:26 pm (UTC)Your food ideas sound great. I was asking because I had you pegged as someone who might have not-immediately-obvious dietary requirements, and I do want to make sure that most people will be able to eat at least something of the food I buy, though I'm not going to attempt to cater entirely for everyone. If there's not enough or not the right things, there are nearby shops to which people can dash for supplies. (I am elaborating this to reinforce my own resolve not to micro-manage this picnic, not because I think you particularly want to know!)

don't micro-manage !
i'm just a not-particularly-fussy vegetarian - i generally take the attitude that if people have particularly outlandish dietary requirements then they will either a) mention it in advance, b) bring along their own food that meets those requirements or c) have no right to complain when there's little suitable food, so probably not worth worrying about.
i will also bring along corkscrew / bottle-opener and some extra cutlery and napkins, for i have done the picnicking thing before !
btw, i'd suggest a birthday / congratulatory toast to
