Meh.

Remember Bush puts God on his side?

Let's hope he reads his Bible a little less selectively in future. He might come across this passage.

Psalm 85 verse 8: "Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts."

I'm tempted to write it out and post it to him, not that he's ever get it.

(This came from my commonplace book. There's a lot of cheery stuff in there, but not much that lifts my spirits right now.)

"Bunch of Old Testament hippies. Psalms, it's just a book of poems really isn't it, what does Matthew 10:34 say, eh?"

The problem is, you could trade verses all day if you're both taking them out of context. The only way to make progress would be via a coherent understanding of the whole - an explanation, for instance, of why that verse about peace is more significant (fsvo 'significant') than a randomly-chosen one about destroying God's enemies, or Jesus coming to bring not peace but a sword.
Sadly Mr President doesn't have time to look into timewasting details like that...

Peace through superior firepower.

The Bible said alot of things. I think one of which is that it is an abomination to lay with another man. You can use the Bible to support just about anything. They did it was slavery and people will continue doing it.

Wish I could say something cheerier, but I'm afraid we don't agree on this.

I think 1 Kings 1:9 is far more appropriate.

Oh, and here I thought that Bush winning conclusively disproved the existence of God.

Well, either that, or that God exists but doesn't give a fuck for the world, in which case I highly doubt his speaking peace.

What I was saying was that you could get the Bible to support anything, regardless of perspective.

I mean, there are a number of unpleasant quotes about Jesus. He wasn't really all that nice of a guy (in some theologians opinions).

The irony is that because of the big push to get people to turn up and vote, Bush has apparently gained the highest number of votes in any presidential election.

The sad thing is that (according to one BBC reporter on the R4 news today) it is likely that Bush gained the poplar vote because of his moral values such as his anti-gay stance.

Wasn't meaning to talk down to you, hope it wasn't read like that. :-/

Ah, but the irony is, Bush believes he's working towards peace, because peace is impossible in a world containing Saddam Hussein...twisted, no?
