So much for early bed. I worked out I had about 7 hours sleep this morning between 7am and 2.30pm, which is pretty cool. So no wonder I'm not very tired now. I am feeling a lot better. I'm coughing quite a bit, but it is good and productive coughing. My nose is pretty clear, my throat is not especially sore, and generally I feel good. I still can't talk much though. I have discovered that if I am coughing and my side hurts, if I bend over and curl up a bit, it stops the pulling on the sore muscles, which is useful to know.

Robert made me a hot water bottle to put on my chest and I think that made a difference earlier (thanks for the tip, Jen!). We watched Two Men In A Trench which was about the battle of Edgehill and was Fantastic. Yay history programmes! The dug up someone's back garden to plot the route of the Royalist cavalry charge! We also saw the end of an arts programme on 5 about Mary Cassatt who was an American Impressionist artist - that was also pretty fabulous.

I am weirded out by channel 5, actually. I mean, tonight there was this great art programme, with serious commentary on pictures and so on, and it's not like she's even a well-known figure like Monet or Van Gogh or someone. Then yesterday I caught snatches of another programme on 5, called 'Real Sex', which involved asking people on the street their wildest sexual escapades, and included a look around an American nudist/voyeur/anything-goes Adult Resort, complete with on-screen nudity and dubious activities... It's just so odd that the channel does both!

Channel 5 is an oddity. They're aware that everyone thinks they're crap (which, for the most part, they are) and in order to keep ratings, they occasionally spend extortionate amounts of money snatching the rights to particularly popular films or series (such as CSI or Angel) so that everything else is viewed as mindless popcorn between the genuinely good stuff.

I do despise C5 for this tactic. Over the past 15 months they've showed The Matrix three times. That's once every three months on average. It's just not right. I also predicted that The Matrix would be shown over Christmas '02, and then C5 showed it in October, making me look foolish.
