Sunday, 10 August 2003 12:45 pmPff. So hot. Been a while since I wrote. Busy.
Thursday was Date Night and we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean. It was fantastic and we loved it lots. Robert had cooked boeuf bourginone in the slow-cooker which was yummy, if a bit rich considering the heat. I have to look up summer recipes.
We have got addicted to Fame Academy and have rationed ourselves to four votes per show, all for Alex so far :) Robert has cable so we are never without the opportunity to gaze wide-eyed at a bunch of randoms doing vocal exercises. Mmmm, yeah.
What have I been reading recently? I ordered Mineko Iwasaki's 'Geisha of Gion' from Amazon, and read it the same day it arrived. It was really rather good. Another volume for my Japanese traditional whatsits library.
Got half-way through Edith Wharton's 'The Bunner Sisters' online, but am bored now. Don't care whether Mr Ramy falls for Evelina or Ann Eliza, sweet though Ann Eliza's self-sacrifice is. I think with her other books, my interest in the high-society milieu she uses as a setting carries me through any dry patches on the characterisation front, whereas here the setting is really claustrophobic and it's not helping.
http://www.pagebypagebooks.com/Edith_Wharton/Bunner_Sisters/index.html , anyway.
Feng Shui game on Friday, where my character managed to take a pot-shot at the henchmen of the guy we were trying to sweet-talk. Hmm. Got a bonus XP for the look on my face when I had explained to me exactly who those particular mooks were. Don't think it has had really dreadful repercussions yet, anyway. (Oh, except they blew up our car. Hmm.)
Yesterday was all lazy and pervaded with Fame Academy warbling. Didn't do much of anything. Lying on the bed naked with a fan going and a spray-bottle of cool water in hand is a really good way to avoid the heat.
Today we got up a bit later than we intended and, instead of doing useful house stuff, were seduced back to Fame Academy. Didn't emerge from our trance till half-an-hour before Robert had to leave for cricket. Hmph. Oh well, more of that tonight. I have been hanging up clothes and stuff. Going to have to go down to the co-op shortly as I'm running out of decent sandwich fillings. Oh, no, tuna and sweetcorn mayonnaise is a possibility. Laundry later, preparing smart clothes for job agencies tomorrow (why are all my business outfits BLACK?). What an exciting life I lead!
On Tuesday night we're going down to London for a family dinner at my parents'. Should be fun - Giles will be back from Yurrup and Robert gets to meet one of my godparents and my not-cousins. And we get another chest of drawers and possibly my Chalet School books. Yay! I'm staying down there and going off on a brief holiday with my parents until the following Saturday. Will be offline between Wednesday and Saturday next week.
Ooooof, *too hot*.
