Birthday is in just over three weeks. Eek, shall be 22. Is a Thursday, so on current form I won't be working but will have a counselling appointment in the afternoon.

How should I celebrate?

I've been trying to work out a list of things I'd like, to give to my mother, but I'm stuck at 'a black coat, a leather belt, and too many books to count'. Thoughts welcome!

oh yes, and another thing: work is dull. Please be entertaining at me, either on this entry, or on your own journal. Here are some ideas:

- tell me jokes.
- debate interesting philosophical issues.
- which are better, badgers or sheepies?
- Fish. Bicycles. Why not?
- anecdotes from university
- silliest goth quote/outfit/lyric you've ever seen/heard
- What's wrong with owning Kylie's Greatest Hits on CD?

student funding

argh! a random university website tells me that for students who have previously withdrawn from a degree course in their second or subsequent year, funding for a new course will be witheld until they reach the same point in the new course as they did in the old. That means I'd get nothing till the final term of my second year. Argh! must find out if this is correct!

Update: Can't find info on that at the moment, but worse news; I won't count as a mature or independent student, so my hopes of financial independence from my parents are dashed. I'd have to be over 25, or have supported myself for three years, or be married, or an orphan.

Argh. Scuppered. Now what do I do? I wanted to be self-supporting and independent so that I did not feel obliged to involve my parents' opinions in my decision-making because they were supporting me. But it seems unless I want another two and a half years or so I can't avoid having their income assessed when my financial support is calculated, which means I will get the minimum loan and no help with fees. Therefore I won't be anle to manage at all without their help. AAAARGH. Damn it!

Right. I am getting ORGANISED. Does anyone have advice on savings accounts? I rather want a Natwest one, simply because they are the people I have my current account with and I want to be able to do easy online transfer things on the one website. But there is a huge list of plans I could go for and I don't know what's best.

Here's what I need:
I'll have a small starting balance, maybe £50 tops.
I want Internet access to it, no question; branch/phone/cashcard access would be good too.
I want fairly instant access to the money, since it's there in case of emergencies and things.

Here's the list of their accounts. It looks like First Reserve ould be it, or an ISA, but I know nothing about ISAs and would need advice before getting one.

Anyone any thoughts?

More ramblings about the future to come. Ï
