I think my problem has really been my expectations. I had this assumption that flu was something I ought to get over very quickly, in a few days maxiumum. Turns out that's really not the case - I can expect to be feeling under par right till the end of the month, given all the lack of sleep, not eating much, etc.

Ah well. As long as I'm vaguely sane and alive on Saturday, I'll be happy. (First anniversary! Boyfriend! Incredible! Yay!)

Sooooo, tonight. How can I while away the hours? There's all sorts of things I could do, if I weren't struggling with closing eyes all the time. I sort of sit there, eyes closed, propped straight up against the bedhead, mouth open like a fish, slowly dropping off, and then I cough. And then I cough again. And then I cough some more, and some more, and I have to lean forward and cough, and no way am I sleeping. But I'm so tired I can't concentrate on reading or knitting or anything else.

This is the thing. All your life when you think you have flu, you generally just have a virus or a bad cold. When the real flu hits you, it's like nothing you ever expected, and you do have to take a lot longer recovering than you think. In "The Olde Days" (ie up to about 1970) you'd be expected to take a long time about it and properly convalesce, but that's gone out of fashion and everyone expects to bounce right back. And it's hard when you don't, because the rest of the world carries on going while you're still trying to recuperate and catch up. :-/

Take your time. Don't rush. I had bad flu seven years ago and I still remember just how slowly I needed to do things. You don't want to make yourself worse.

As for passing time - I remember half-watching a lot of films, and doing crosswords and other puzzles. If I had been a knitter at that point I imagine that would have been occupying, if not productive (dropped stitches etc). Can you concentrate enough for any of the Neopets games?

What a coinkidink! :)

My one year anniversary with Michael is Saturday, too! I hope you feel better and have a great time. :)

At least after you actually have bona-fide flu, you know what flu is (ie, if it would take several large whiskies and some illegal amphetamines to get you out of bed, it's flu) - and can laugh gently at all the people who think they have it.
