Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:22 amSoooo, the co-codamol at midnight had no effect; I have spent an hour and a half coughing. I have just taken a whole dose of Robitussin and if that doesn't have any effect I am screwed.
I have been sitting in bed coughing almost solidly since 10.30. I just can't cope.
Update: I am contacting NHS Direct again. I need advice.

Date: Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:49 am (UTC)At the moment I feel as though something is stuck in my throat (like a pill, or something) and the whole back of my mouth is sensitised as a cough trigger.
I guess I will have to go to the doctor. I'm *fine* during the day, though - I just can't sleep. I've got to go to work tomorrow, though, even if they send me straight home again.

Date: Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:26 am (UTC)Ours is a pretty sizeable practice, with two surgeries, but they suddenly stopped allowing same-day appointments for any reason at the one by my place. (I'm not actually sure if they even allow them at the one at the other end of town.) No explanation. It was really bizarre; they're hardly hurting for doctors, and they're not even crowded when I go in.
Re:
Date: Tuesday, 3 February 2004 02:38 am (UTC)NHSDirect says I need to get moisture into the air! So wet towel on radiator, steam inhalation, etc. They also say I should see the doctor tomorrow. I'm less sure about that, but as I'll be useless at work anyway through having No Sleep maybe it's not so bad. I'll talk to Robert about that in the morning.
I go to seek wetness and moistitude.

Date: Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:09 am (UTC)I have nothing for hot drinks that I like. No blackcurrant, no lemons, no hot chocolate that isn't 4 years out of date... gah.

Date: Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:13 am (UTC)It turned out to be a bacterial infection, for which I got given antibiotics. (After checking with the doctor that no, he wasn't just giving them to me, there was an actual point to them.)
As the cough went within 2 days after that I conceded that in this case antibiotics were good.
The other thing I found was Vicks Vaposyrup for dry coughs is really good

Date: Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:26 pm (UTC)I would believe that. If I've woken up with a bit of asthma or a scratchy throat I do often feel better after standing in a hot shower. (Yes, I know about the state of your bathroom. . . I'd offer ours if it weren't 25 miles away.) You should probably go and seek a bowl of hot water and a towel (I realise you probably did this about 10 hours ago).
