Thursday, 29 January 2004 07:41 amI went to sleep eventually, though I'm not sure how. I woke up again at about 6.30. My throat is agonisingly sore. It hurts constantly and gets worse if I do anything (like breathe, drink, speak, cough, cry etc.). I am, needless to say, not going to work today. I emailed in instead of phoning because I can't talk properly.
I think soft warm food might help. I have some rice thing and lots of pasta, and some cock-a-leekie soup in a tin. I have some yoghurt too, though that obviously isn't warm. I think I will eat pasta today.
I am sending Robert out soon to buy me things - tissues and squash and chocolate and stuff.
I am feeling very frustrated and upset with being ill. I have had enough and no being able to do *anything* to improve matters is really getting to me. At this stage I can't even doze off easily like I could the first day, and hence sleep through it.

Date: Thursday, 29 January 2004 01:20 pm (UTC)Soft warm food sounds like a good idea. I also highly recommend echinacea in some form (echinacea tea is what I usually take when I'm sickening for anything). It really does make a surprising amount of difference.
I'm trying to think whether I can help more with the boredom side of things (I take it you're still needing things to keep you occupied that take less effort than reading?). I shall ponder on my walk.
In the meantime I'd just like to be dull and emphasise again what people have been saying - *go to the doctor*, or if you're not well enough to do that, get someone over on a house-call. It's probably just a bad cold but with that amount of pain it does sound like it could be your tonsils. At any rate it's worth consulting someone and being sure. Anyway, I shall stop being annoying and bossy about it now, but that's what I'd do in your situation, and what I'd get Nick to do if he was!
tonnes of love,
Elly
