Ug.

I have been to the doctor. I *do* have Irritable Bowel Syndrome after all. All my blood tests were normal.

I am going to eat some food, take my Fybogel (probably) and go into work shortly. I am horribly tired and not feeling good.

My wig for the ROTK party arrived yesterday. I am way behind on the costumes though.

Oh, huge sympathies.

I have IBS too. I wondered if that might be what you had. Will have a think and then pour advice all over you...

First up - no subsitute for: peppermint tea in the mornings, eating regularly and not too late in the evening, plenty of fibre (preferably from a variety of sources), relaxation, hot water bottles on lower abdomen when pain is bad, lots and lots (and lots) of water, especially if it's filtered, and above all allowing plenty of time when you go to the bathroom. Ooh, and avoiding caffeine is a Good Thing I find, though I avoid it for other reasons too.

As every leaflet and book on the thing says, "never ignore a call to the stool!". Which still makes me laugh, but they do seem to be right. :)

*hugs you again*

I do hope it eases soon. No wonder you're so tired. :(

lots of love,

Elly

That's a relief, at least you know now.

My housemate last year found that silica gel was an effective treatment. Every case seems to be individual, it's just a matter of finding a diet and things that work for you.

Just to say that I've decided to go as Pippin to the party, so will not need the wig or wig-cap. (Yup, failed to find appropriate grey leggins in Newbury... well, it made sense to me, anyway...).

Thanks so much for the offer of them though.

*hugs*

Elly

Have you tried testing yourself for food intolerances? I had IBS, but it turned out it was just an extreme (and sudden-onset) caffeine intolerance.) All kinds of things can apparently cause that kind of reaction though.

My mum got rid of her IBS symptoms by changing her diet - but gluten-free-dairy-free is a hard regimen to keep up. It does work though. I had IBS in my late teens/early twenties and never found any one thing that would solve it (sorry) but destressing and avoiding caffeine both helped.

No, this had been prescribed by a doctor and was safe-to-eat silica gel stuff.

It's OK I was just playing word association. I'm pretty sure every sachet I've ever seen (of the kind that's used to keep gadgets dry) has those words on it. It's one of those folk-memory things.
