re: student loan, if yours is through the same people as mine then it is entirely down to your place of work to sort payments out for you direct with the Inland Revenue - and as a result they are the ones who get told off for not sorting the payment for you, not you directly :) Your new job will no doubt receive notice direct from IR/Student Loan and start taking it from pay in the next few months. It took my employers 5 months to start taking payments from me after they were informed because they were a bit slack, and Student Loans didn't seem to mind :)
