Weekend also involved going to see The Men They Couldn't Hang at the Garage in Highbury. They were pretty damn fantastic. I really enjoyed myself. The support act, Butler-Wilson, were good too. If only the mosh pit hadn't been quite so energetic, I'd have been able to concentrate on the music more. I hate stupid people who push each other around.

Evening also included losing my watch between the car and the venue. This not good. Have no money to replace it, for a start.

Feeling a bit anxious at the moment because of major no-money-at-all hassle. Must get better at budgeting and rememberig when direct debits go out.

Off to buy brother's birthday gift shortly, and go to the bank. Thence to Oxford, thence to London. meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

The Men They Couldn't Hang? My god, they're still going? Excellent.

They did some cool stuff. I've got Rain, Steam and Speed on tape, and keep on meaning to trade up to a CD.

They have a new album out (unfortunately, only in Germany or from their website (http://www.tmtch.net)). Rain, Steam and Speed is on Silvertown, which is currently available. It's also on The Mud, The Blood & The Beer, the second half of their best of (the first half being Majestic Grill).

Briefly put :-
Night of A Thousand Candles (currently available on CD) - the first album. A little patchy, but has the wonderful IronMasters, Green Fields of France, A Night To Remember and Scarlet Ribbons, all still in their repertoire.
How Green Is Your Valley (not currently available)
Waiting For Bonaparte (available) - My favourite album of theirs (and the one I'm listening to now).
Silvertown (available)
The Domino Club (limited availability)
Alive Alive-O (live album, not seen for ages and I don't have a copy)
Never Born To Follow (available, I believe)
Six Pack (EP - not available)
The Cherry Red Jukebox (new album)

And the aforementioned Best of compilations.
And a video, which I have.

oops. I'll stop there. I'm a bit of a fanatic.

By a remarkable coincidence I was reading an article about the man they could not hang (http://groups.google.com/groups?as_umsgid=be9tj3$1vvs$1@nntp6.u.washington.edu) just today, as it turns out one recorded in a song cycle I know from a Fairport convention CD.
