calling arty people!
Thursday, 26 June 2003 12:55 pmI've had a craft idea that, for once, I'm having trouble actually utting into action. What I want to do is make a small rectangular black velvet bag, a bit bigger than a CD case. It will have a zip across the top and a black cord shoulder-strap. I then want to applique a design on it in white felt. What I want is to have the image of a face, as if looking out of the shadows. You know when you get those very gothy photos of people all in stark black-and-white, so you have just black and then only the lit portions of their face visible? That's what I want. Probably quite a rounded, childlike face, head turned down and to one side. I'll cut the white portions out of felt (needs to be very simple lines) and the black velvet backing will represent the shadows.
I'm having great trouble designing this. If anyone is any good at this sort of thing and could come up with something, either by drawing it or finding me a photo I can work from, they could have a bag like that as repayment :)

Date: Thursday, 26 June 2003 05:10 am (UTC)1) I have a black, white and two shades of grey picture of a woman.
2) I have a totally black and white picture of my face (from when I was skinnier)
Hmmmm, I can e-mail you the second one as an idea to work from sometime next week (once I get home) the other would have to be scanned/photocopied and then sent.
I can doodle around and see where I get if you'd like. Other suggestion would be to check out something like Ranma1/2 or such manga type stuff. Fairly rounded, childlike faces, easy to shadow block. Shall start to scribble.

Date: Thursday, 26 June 2003 07:29 am (UTC)You could do what a friend did when she was making a Halloween lantern that was meant to look like Scott Bakula (don't ask...) - get an ordinary pic and play about with it (contrast, brightness, etc) in some photoediting software until this is what you end up with. Then print it out and use it as a template. The finished result was very very good indeed in that case.
