I have noticed a couple of posts on my friendslist announcing journals as Valentine-free zones - not checking any LJ valentine communities, not posting any messages therein. I'd kind of like to be able to do the same, as it does get a bit silly. But I know what I'm like - I'm a soppy pile of fluff and squishiness, and I know I will post things and check for things. So I have given in to it and signed up with valentinr, an auto-valentine thingummy.

My Valentinr - lucyclare

Yes, I am silly.

Glee! Every other year I've rejected valentines, but I like this valentinr thing. Woot!

*throws a rose at you* *nicely* ;)

Yay for populised societal romance.

am always in two minds about VD ( such an ambiguous acronym ! ) - on most levels i loathe and despise it, but i also like being given the opportunity to show the people i have horrendous hopeless crushes on care about some symbol of my affection ( without coming across as scarily stalkerish, which would probably be the case should anything similar be done on most of the other 364¼ days of the year ) and wouldn't want to think that any of them might feel less loved and appreciated by my not doing my bit. cynicism and romance using my heart as a battleground once again...

see, that's one of the things that gets to me about it - when one is already in a relationship, scattering rose petals over the bed and cooking heart-shaped puddings as an occasional special way to show how much the other person/people mean(s) to you should be done whenever and wherever it's likely to be appreciated, not limited to or prescribed by one single day out of the whole damn year ( see also: my love-hate relationships with "the festive season" and birthdays ) - if somebody wants to show me how much they care for me, i want them to do it for that reason and for that reason alone, not because of some quasi-arbitrary commercialised annual event !

p.s. it being a school night, didn't you want us to tell you off if not in bed by half-ten ? <looks stern>

Don't worry, I'm a squishy ball of fluff too at heart. But I don't really like valentines day because it is so comercialised and I don't see why you can only be really fluffy and romantic to your other half for day of the dear. Although maybe I'm just bitter and cynical because I have never once gotten anything from anyone on valentines day.
