If you'll end up being happier going to CCF and skipping then you should as we want a happy you on your birthday.
However, as you have flagged this up in advance and as I am part of the ST team for the Mage National and as I know your character from way back (though might need a bit of an update)... if you still want to go I'll make sure we have plot that makes sense and carries on for you so that just being at the first session not only makes sense, but will actually give you some ongoing plot stuff. Not guaranteeing 'safety' from in-game events, but then that applies to anyone that plays in both, as normal.
After all, we're there to give people rewarding stories as well as just single games.
