I don't suppose it could be some kind of allergy that was sparked off by something in the bedroom, like dust-mites or something? Aleergies can suddenly spring up out of nowhere, I'm told.

A wild stab in the dark, I know, but maybe it is the bedroom that is/was the problem.

I was also thinking allergy. Maybe, sometimes, mild ones can be made worse by a viral infection. Or, at least, become more apparent.

Or maybe it's flatness? Extra pillows (foam ones, in case it is allergy) or lying face down sometimes helps. Of course, you have to get used to sleeping face down and flat, but it can be very helpful with breathing and so on.

I find that if I've got a really bad cough, then things like deodorant and perfune can make it very much worse. Seeing as a bedroom is one place where such things are applied, maybe you're reacting to something in the atmosphere that you wouldn't normally react to. I doubt it's cat hairs as they'd be on the sofa as well.

Yup it's the allergy idea again. I also find that lying flat clogs me up, and if I stand everything clears, so Hilary's idea regarding flat pillows may alse be contributory.
